The Freiburg Materials Research Center is a central research institute of the University of Freiburg where scientist from six faculties perform jointly interdisciplinary and international research on modern materials and new technologies characterized by the effective interaction of basic and applied research. Thus, the development of the novel materials and surfaces tailored to specific applications in microsystems technology is carried out in close collaboration with Institute for Microsystem Technology, the faculty of engineering at the Albert-Ludwigs-University. The principal investigator Gerald Urban holds the chair sensor, which is located at FMF and IMTEK. ALU-FR has a various research expertise and characterization facilities including excellent electron microscopy (TEM, HRSEM, etc.) and X-Ray techniques (e.g. XRD, XPS), which are indispensable for the development of functional nanomaterials.
